Boo Boo loves books. He loves being read to but also enjoys flipping through the pages himself. Not only does he love books as a tool to grow his imagination, he also likes standing on then, making piles of them, taking them off the shelf and not putting them back. I love reading books to him; it’s good for his mind, but it’s also good for my body. I love it when he’s nestled on my lap or squeezed next to me on our armchair. He is in constant motion these days and reading a book is one of the times he’s content to sit still and I bask in the warmth of his little body. It’s like the sun and vitamin D, but this is more essential.
Boo Boo has a lot of books, even though I’ve only bought him about three. We have hand-me-down books from friends, books from bookstores, books from thrift stores, books from stoops and sidewalk sales. Boo Boo has old classics, but also random titles by self-published writers. Jer-bear and I also have a lot of books. All told, the three of us have enough books to fill two whole bookshelves. Marie Kondo might find it excessive and sometimes I do too, but this is an indulgence I don’t feel bad about.
In honor of Boo Boo’s love of books, I decided to feature one of his favorites each week. These are his preferences, not mine. I enjoy many of them. Others annoy the crap out of me. But he loves them, so I love them. And they’re books.
