Blog intro 2020: Holy crap I have a toddler now. We’re in a pandemic and NYC is the epicenter! What else happened this year? Oh right, a continent was on fire, impeachment, the Iowa caucuses were a disaster, the Chiefs won the Superbowl…what did I miss? I’m kind of nostalgic for the simple times of 2019 (see below for the unaltered and gushing intro of last year).
Blog intro 2019: My name is Robin. I’m a mom. I’m like a lot of other moms. I think my baby is the best baby in the world, and you think the same about your baby. I live in Brooklyn, where there are many other moms. I live in a walk-up, I wait for the train, I deal with excrement that is not my own, I love to squish my baby’s cheeks.
But I am different from other moms in that I’m the mom of my son. Let me tell you about my son. He’s the happiest baby–and did I mention before that he’s the best? He’s the baby whose mirth is set in stone in beaux arts fountains in parks worldwide, mingling with fawns, playing in streams, ignoring the pigeons sitting on his head. He’s the one who makes angels sing and cherubs flap their wings. He is a freaking cherub. His cheeks the size of fresh mozzarella balls, and when he smiles, which is often, they belie his one deep dish dimple.
Who knows what he’ll be like next year, or even next month, but this blog is about who he his now, at the tender age of one.
The beautiful cover photo is part of a beautiful picture by Kim Kalesti, a long-time East Village resident and mother of two. The full picture is below.
